Went to a fabulous (sounding) pop-up dining and art experience at The Old Vic tunnels the other night. The Minotaur - a celebration of the ancient Greek story of a half bull half boy character.

I haven’t been to the venue before - but a good source tells me the art installations - while very nicely set up - were in fact a little same-same as last time.

We’d pre-booked the gourmet dinner, cooked by various chefs, and were instantly amazed as soon as we walked into the Victoriana-meets-chic decorated dining area.

That’s where the amazement ended.

Menu descriptions were cleverly written, but utterly useless.

The courses were well presented, but were bland.

The veggie main was some strange root vegetable that wasn’t cooked properly, mixed with an over-abundance of chestnuts, both of which flavours just didn’t gel.

The dessert (extra cost) , and was nicely described by the man next to us as “the bowl of chocolate topping”

All that topped off with a fight with the manager over service charged!

Pret-a-diner - such a great concept spoiled by over-priced bland dishes.

Amazed and surprised …. Where do you think I got the divine looking dish of beetroot tortellini with sautéed spinach and rocket … On board Virgin Atlantic. It was tasty!

Mmmm…. coffee at Monmouth. The Coffee Nazi’s.
I appreciate good coffee, but I also appreciate the skill in making a soy latte.
Despite only serving full cream organic cows milk from one particular farm, and only selling certain varieties of coffee - they are staying true to their story, and with the queues they experience regularly, I would also stick to my philosophy (i.e. if you don’t like it, don’t queue up!).
I guess it’s the one time it’s not cool to like only Soy.

I never realised that Scotland would have lovely quaint beachside towns (bloody ignorant Aussies). Findhorn changed my life. And, what’s even better, the Kimberley Inn definitely changed my opinion about Scottish cuisine. Yes, even after Archiestown Hotel had already made me redefine my thoughts on Scottish gourmet food, the Kimberley Inn made me realise that all is not fried served with Haggis and black pudding.
The Scottish sun also worked in combination to the menu’s delights in completely changing my opinion about the Scottish seaside… and, well, I had one of the most loveliest afternoons in a very long time.
All of this in ode to my best friend and the celebration of her birthday.
Pity we had to rush off to the world’s tiniest airport in the world, where the hire-a-car drop off was a thousand miles away.
Still, a truly memorable afternoon.

I watched this the other day, and now I can’t get the tune out of my head.

I love Charlie’s cat.

Caravan.
Exmouth Market.
These Baked Eggs with tomato and red pepper ragout covered in Greek yoghurt, caused a divine flavour party in my mouth!
Honestly, everything about Caravan is divine.
Atmosphere. Tick.
